FIYA offers interscholastic basketball leagues for elementary schools. We organize leagues based on factors such as geography, grade level and skill level. Division 1 is for 8thgrade and below and Division 2 is for 6th and below. Division 1A is for 8th grade and below but is intended for schools with smaller school enrollment and/or lesser experienced players; Division 1A is more developmental. While FIYA reserves the right to make final decisions on where teams are placed, please let us know if you think your team would be a good fit for D-1A. Our goal is to provide the best experience for all teams so any feedback you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Each school team will play 7 to 8 regular season games. For Division 1 the regular season will start the week of January 11 and for Division 1A and Division 2, the regular season will likely start the week of January 18. The regular season will end in March with playoffs for Division 1 starting in early March. Please note that a portion of Division 1 playoffs may occur during your school’s spring break and the Division 1 championships for girls and boys will take place on March 24 or 28 at Staples Center. There are playoffs in Division 1A but the championship will NOT be at Staples Center and there are no playoffs in Division 2.
The deadline to register your school’s intent to participate in FIYA basketball is ON or BEFORE Wednesday November 25, 2015. Please submit the attached form VIA EMAIL to register your school’s intent to participate in FIYA basketball – phone calls and text messages are unofficial and therefore not guaranteed. Any emails received after Wednesday November 25 will be placed on the wait list and will be added only if they can be accommodated. Upon receipt of your school’s intent to register, we will send an invoice to your school. Payments of invoice can be made at the mandatory coaches meeting. The cost to participate is $450 per team which includes all fees (referee, facility, admin, etc).
Please be sure to write down the days during the season that your school has a holiday as well as any special scheduling requests. We strive to do our best to accommodate schedule requests but cannot guarantee every request can be met. However, providing schedule requests PRIOR to the draft schedules being sent will significantly help in creating good game schedules and will limit the need for making changes to the draft schedule.
There are mandatory coaches meetings. A representative of your school needs to attend just the meeting in the region where the school team will play. If your school cannot send a representative to attend the mandatory coaches meeting, you should seriously consider NOT registering a basketball team for your school. Here are the dates and locations of such meetings:
Valley Region – 5 pm on Monday December 7th at San Fernando Valley Academy located at 17601 Lassen Street, Northridge 91325.
Los Angeles Region – 5 pm on Tuesday December 8th at Kipp LA Prep located at 2810 Whittier Blvd, Los Angeles 90023.
Westside Region – 5 pm on Wednesday December 16th at Frank Parent School located at 5354 West 64th Street Inglewood 90302.
Lastly, FIYA basketball games occur in gymnasiums at centralized facilities during the weekdays between the hours of 4 pm and 8 pm. If your school has a gym or access to a gym, we are in need of gymnasiums to host the games.
