Lions Strike for 3 Goals in 5 Minutes to Win Division 1A Championship
Having played to a draw in their league matchup in late April, both Le Lycee and Downtown Value knew that the FIYA Division 1A Championship on Monday afternoon at Frank Parent School in Inglewood would be a tough battle. Both teams had a few scoring chances in the first half but good goalkeeping and focused defense made it hard on the strikers so that at halftime it was 0 - 0. And for the first half of the second period, it was much of the same: a good soccer game between two skilled teams and every so often one of the teams would put a shot on goal only to be denied. However in the 38th minute of the game, Le Lycee took advantage of a breakaway and scored a goal much to the delight of their large contingent of fans. And then deja vu seemed to take over for the next four minutes as Le Lycee again showed speed to race downfield and get two more goals. However, DVS did not give up as they scored a goal and had a few more close chances that they were unable to convert but they played with heart and determination for the full 50 minutes and their big crowd was proud of their effort. In the end, it was the Lions earning the Division 1A championship with a 4 - 1 victory.
