In the Division 1A girls soccer championship, league rivals Mark Twain and Century Community Charter faced each other on Wednesday afternoon in Culver City. Mark Twain struck first with a goal at the 10 minute mark and followed it with another goal less than 2 minutes later. Down 3 - 0 at halftime, the Lady Bears of Century Community came out determined in the second half and had some offensive charges. However, the Lady Sharks were able to hold them off and ending up winning the match 4 -0 to win the championship.
Similarly, in the Division 1 girls soccer championship, league rivals were matched up. After tying each other in the regular season, both Culver City and St Anastasia dominated their opponents to make it to the championship on Wednesday afternoon. Both teams played aggressive and had a few scoring opportunities in the first half but after 25 minutes, it was scoreless. Inspired by a halftime pep talk, the Lady Panthers of CCMS took it to their similar namesake and scored a goal at the 26 minute mark. Would the one goal be enough? No was the roar from the St Anastasia contingent as the Lady Panthers of St Anastasia scored at the 41 minute mark. After a scoreless 5 minute overtime, the championship would be determined by penalty kicks. Culver City hit the back of the net on their first three shots and denied St Anastasia on their first three to capture their 5th consecutive Divison 1 championship.
